“We have been so lucky to see the stunning Falls from ground level, above and below!”
Day 1 – Touchdown in Canada and Niagara Nights
Our Ontario adventure began with a direct midday Air Canada flight from Heathrow which was smooth, comfortable, and had plenty of entertainment to keep us occupied. Well-fed and well-rested, we landed ready for the journey ahead!
First stop: the iconic Niagara Falls for an unforgettable two-night stay. We kicked things off with dinner at Prime Steakhouse, gazing out at the American Falls illuminated in vibrant evening colours. Afterwards, it was back to our hotel — the Marriott on the Falls — where we fell asleep to the incredible view of the Falls right outside our window.
Day 2 – Niagara from Every Angle
The day began with the most breathtaking sunrise I’ve ever seen - the sky painted in glorious shades of pink and gold. Breakfast was a treat at the Old Stone Inn, a gorgeous boutique property with old world charm. French toast and maple syrup set the tone for a perfect morning.
A short stroll took us to Niagara Takes Flight, a thrilling 4D simulator that swoops you over the region’s rivers and landscapes. After lunch at Table Rock Restaurant, we explored the Niagara Power Station & Tunnel, where you can walk out onto an Observation deck at the river’s edge - we all grabbed a poncho for that spray from the falls!
A Surprise stop and highlight today was a Niagara Helicopters Flight for an unforgettable flight over the Falls, this time of year you can really see the Fall (Autumn) Colours too - absolutely beautiful!
We ended the day with a visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a charming town brimming with character. Dinner and wine pairing at Tiara Restaurant in the beautiful Queen’s Landing Hotel made for the perfect finale to an incredible day. We have been so lucky to see the stunning Falls from ground level, above and below!
Day 3 – First Impressions of Toronto
Our first afternoon in Toronto didn’t disappoint. After checking into the Chelsea Hotel in downtown Toronto, we headed off on a guided city tour which introduced us to the majestic Casa Loma (famous for it's film appearances), the bustling St. Lawrence Market, and the creative charm of the Distillery District, where I sampled a shot of melted chocolate with chilli and ginger! We rounded off the day exploring some of the city’s quirky street art.
Day 4 – Culture, Coffee and a Miniature Canada
We began with a fascinating guided tour of the Art Gallery of Ontario, home to an extraordinary and diverse collection. From there, a three-hour walking tour of Kensington Market and Chinatown showcased Toronto’s multicultural heart - complete with a stop at Jimmy’s Coffee and Bunner’s Bakery (it's like the tour was tailored for me!).
We jumped in an Uber and headed back to the centre of downtown to explore little Canada - Ontario's #1 indoor attraction- see the whole of Canada in miniature (as a special treat I have been shrunk and there is going to be a tiny me in the exhibit!. A great reason to come back again among many others!). It's a fantastic and very diverse city!
Our final stop was dinner at the revolving 360 restaurant in The CN tower - absolutely recommended for epic views & great food!
“A Byward Market foodie tour introduced us to local flavours through a delicious mix of dishes, beers, cocktails and teas.”
Day 5 – Kingston and Rockport Adventures
We hopped onboard the Via Rail Train first thing for a 2.5 hour journey from Toronto to Kingston, and a Trolley took us round for a whole day of sightseeing- from Museums (Bellevue House and Military Communications & Electronics) to Fort Henry and a Penitentiary!
We checked into the beautiful Kingston Marriott for our overnight stay, before finishing the day with a Haunted walk to see the city by night and hear a spooky story or two along the way.
Before leaving the area for our final Ontario stay, we visited Rockport for a spectacular 1000 Island Helicopter Ride, and the iconic 1000 Island Cruise.
Days 6–7 – Ottawa: History, Flavour and Farewell
Our final stop was Ottawa, where I’d last visited back in 2017. This time, we stayed two nights at the Lord Elgin Hotel, ideally located for exploring the capital.
We began with a city tour aboard an open-top bus, followed by a visit to the Royal Canadian Mint, where we watched coins being made (no photos allowed, sadly!). We continued the day with a whirlwind visit to the National Art Gallery of Canada to see their unique pieces , and popped into the beautiful Notre Dame Basilica - so peaceful and pretty.
A Byward Market foodie tour introduced us to local flavours through a delicious mix of dishes, beers, cocktails and teas. That evening, another Haunted Walk added a touch of mystery to the capital’s night air.
Our final morning included breakfast at the grand Fairmont Château Laurier (home to the original photo of Winston Churchill — the very one on our £5 note!) and a visit to the Canadian Museum of History. We ended our adventure in the picturesque town of Chelsea, right at the gateway to Gatineau Park, before boarding our overnight flight home to Heathrow.
Until next time Canada - you've been amazing once again!
